Wacky, wild, wonderfully remote on a wind-buffeted coast in the Outer Hebrides – these little cottages revel in creativity. You'll love it if you crave adventure, for this far-flung crofting town on Harris's rocky south coast transforms in spring sunshine into a stunning sweep of wildflowers and birds. Wild walks are the main attraction; for nightlife, look not for neon lights but stars. The cottages cluster opposite a seafood joint. Grandfather's is the sweetest, a chunky stone cottage with deep jewel-like windows. Inside are fun furnishings, Susan's wildlife paintings and, squished under eaves, an open-plan bedroom and bathroom.Gannet and Fulmar are sky-blue family bungalows built to withstand the elements: cuddle by the stove gazing out at storm-lashed seas. Or bubble in a jacuzzi tub in all-singing, all-dancing bathrooms with steam showers, small saunas, tartan towels. Jan and Suzan are exceptionally warm, fun hosts who go out of their way for you – or leave you in peace to enjoy fishing, biking, seal-watching, kayaking. .
